Rainbow baby: A rainbow baby is a child born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. The term has encouraged parents to share their stories of loss – and the babies that followed.

As you may recall, I did a rainbow baby maternity shoot here in Red Deer, AB in April that ended up being featured on RDnewsnow. This photo project was to shine light on the families who have survived great loss, and to help them tell their stories.

A few of the mothers, since have had their babies and I have had the pleasure of photographing thier newborn photos. One of the babies, Cameron Oliver Grey was born a month early weighed a perfect 6lbs 8oz and was the 5th baby that joined the family.

Cameron came for his newborn session at 9 days old and captured the hearts of everybody in the room. Every newborn that comes through our doors has a distinct personality and he was no different. Cameron was wide eyed and took everything as he’d look around the room. It was hard to believe this little guy was only 9 days old. Although Cameron wasn’t able to settle for a few nakey poses, we worked with different wrapped poses and captured some beautiful images.

When we asked Sarah if she had any words of wisdom for anyone considering newborn photography she responded: “Just do it. Book Paige and don’t look back. These moments are so fleeting, babies don’t keep. I know you will be overjoyed with the art you will receive. Just like me, you’ll be so proud to display it in your home for years to come”.
